POWER OF COMPOUNDING OR POWER OF FORGETTING MAKES HIM A CROREPATHI

Goa MFD Celso Fernandes of Nave Marg Financial Consultants says:-

The value of money of one of his clients who forgot about his investment crossed the Rs. 1 crore mark in just nine years!

This is a real-life story that shows the power of compounding and the benefits of staying invested for a long time in mutual funds.

The client had started his first SIP in 2008 of Rs. 10,000 in a mid cap fund when the NAV was Rs. 11.

Thanks to his disciplined approach and guidance of the MFD, he continued his SIP for 5 years till 2013.

By then, the NAV of the fund had reached Rs. 17.

Over this 60 months period, he invested Rs.6 lakh.

Client moved to Kuwait ,and SIP discontinued and could not be contacted by the MFD physically or on phone or email.

Busy in his daily routine, the client completely forgot about this investment.

However, when he came back to India in 2022, he approached Celso to enquire about his first SIP.

To the utter amazement of everyone involved, the investment value of SIP investment had crossed the Rs. 1 crore mark by then.

Seeing the exemplary performance, the client continued his investment.

Today, the value of this investment has reached Rs.1.40 crore.

Recently, the client decided to set up an SWP of Rs. 1 lakh every month with this investment.

Celso, who also forgot about the client after making attempts to contact the client for some time, calls this case study the eighth wonder of the world i.e. the power of compounding through mutual funds.

Celso says this case study exemplifies the ‘The power of forgetting’.

Celso recommends MFDs to ask investors to continue investing irrespective of market conditions and encourage them to stay put for long term.

He also advises MFDs to promote step up SIPs whenever the market gives their clients an opportunity to accumulate more units.

PHYSICAL EXCERCISE FOR HEALTH. MUTUAL FUND FOR WEALTH

 Mutual Funds and physical Exercise:

To avoid falling sick and lead a healthy life we try to eat healthy foods, do exercise, plan workouts, meditate regularly. But we don’t have a similar approach towards our financial fitness.

We delay investing and when we finally begin, we tend to not do it properly, wounding ourselves.

Let us elucidate how you can achieve financial fitness using mutual funds.

As a start, treat mutual funds like a well-rounded exercise routine.

Just as a balanced workout plan can help you stay physically fit, investing in mutual funds can help you achieve your financial goals.

Let’s explore this analogy in more detail.

1. Diversification: The Full-Body Workout

In exercise, a full-body workout targets different muscle groups, ensuring balanced development and reducing the risk of injury.

Similarly, mutual funds offer diversification by investing in a variety of assets such as equity, deb, commodities like gold, silver and other securities.

This diversification helps spread risk and can lead to more stable returns over time.

2. Professional Management: The Personal Trainer

Hiring a personal trainer can provide you with expert guidance, helping you optimize your workouts and achieve better results.

In the world of mutual funds, fund managers act as your personal trainers.

They have the expertise to make informed investment decisions, monitor market trends, and adjust the fund’s portfolio to maximize returns for you as an investor.

3. Regular Contributions: Consistent Exercise Routine

Just as regular exercise is key to maintaining physical fitness, consistent contributions to your mutual fund investments through systematic investment plans (SIPs) are crucial for building financial wealth.

By investing regularly, you can take advantage of rupee-cost averaging, which helps mitigate the impact of market volatility and can lead to better long-term returns via power of compounding.

But do remember to increase your SIP amount regularly over time to keep pace with inflation and your changing lifestyle.

4. Risk and Reward: Pushing Your Limits

In exercise, pushing your limits can lead to greater strength and endurance, but it also comes with the risk of injury if not done properly.

Similarly, investing in mutual funds involves a balance of risk and reward.

Higher-risk funds may offer the potential for higher returns, but they also come with greater volatility.

It’s important to assess your risk tolerance and choose funds that align with your financial goals.

5. Long-Term Commitment: The Fitness Journey

Achieving physical fitness is a long-term journey that requires dedication and patience.

The same is true for achieving financial fitness through mutual funds.

While short-term market fluctuations can be unsettling, staying committed to your investment plan and focusing on long-term goals can lead to long term wealth creation.

6. Review and monitor: Regular check-ups

After several months of sticking to a regular exercise regime, you do check your body weight, BMI and other aspects to see your progress.

Similarly reviewing your mutual fund investments periodically can help you understand the progress of your wealth creation process and make any adjustments as needed

Conclusion

Just as a well-rounded exercise routine can help you stay physically fit, investing in mutual funds can help you achieve financial fitness and independence.

By diversifying your investments, relying on professional management, making regular contributions, balancing risk and reward, and staying committed for the long term, you can build a strong financial foundation to get to your life goals.

What is Mutual Fund?

What is mutual fund ?

Imagine a group of friends pooling their money to buy a Bucket Briyani.

Instead of one person to spend the whole meal for all friends, they combine their money to get a bucket Briyani, and now amount accumulated is more, they buy more items in addition to Briyani and share all among them.

Now every one can taste many dishes, many tastes , and  at the same  time each one is spending less amount of Money.

You can say A mutual fund also functions like that , but it is for Investment.

It's a pool of money collected from public, and invested in various income generating financial instruments.

The decision to buy, which one to buy, when to sell, what to sell   to generate profit out it , every thing is managed by professionals.

This money is invested in things like stocks, bonds, or other assets.

Basing on the nature of instruments, mutual funds are classified in to 3 categories to reduce the risk for the client.

1. Debt

2. Equity

3. Hybrid

Debt Funds  :

Where collected money is invested in instruments such as Bonds issued by Government or private, treasury bills , Money market instruments etc , These types of funds are less volatile in nature , so Investors have lesser risk invested in these funds. But return from these instruments are normally low to medium.

Equity Funds

When collected money is invested in shares of listed companies , those funds are called Equity funds. These funds are high risk ,high return funds. Even though selection funds are carefully done by professionals , due to various external factors including international, price of these funds are highly volatile and has a significant risk associated with it

Hybrid funds

These type of funds are combination of Debt and Equity at various proportion to gain more return from Equity and to minimise risk by investing in Debt instruments.
